How to Justify your Link Building Budget

Posted on November 6, 2009, by seogirl, under Fake PR, Google, Link Building.

Many of us often come across this common situation when our Boss asks for justification of the budget for Link building. Things get so much difficult if the Boss (who is an MBA in Finance, wow) but has practically no knowledge about SEO, Link Building, SERPs, Google Algorithm (Blah Blah Blah.. all Tech. Jargon).

It will always remain a 50-50 chance for you to be able to prove your SEO skills or it would be better to put this way “that you know your job very well” unless you read this post from Start to Finish. :)

Lets start with the basics -

Link – What is it? – Its a connection between two things. Since we are talking “SEO” here, those 2 things will be two web pages. You click on the link and you are redirected to a new page.

Are some links different from others? How? – Yes, two links can be different. They can be mainly categorized as : INBOUND Link or OUTBOUND Link.

Inbound/Outbound? What is this ? – Suppose Page A has a Link to Page B. Page A is an INBOUND link to B and Page B will be an OUTBOUND link to Page A.

All the time links Links LINKS! What’s the matter guys ? – Hmm, tough question  :P (but I know the answer dude , I am smart enough lol)

This should be answered with a rapid fire  round -

Why do you hire an SEO? - To make your site reach out to people and help you increase your sales.

How will this happen? - By making the site rank well in the eyes of Search engines which will get people to your site?

How will you rank well? – Follow what the Search engines seek to rank your site better and at the same time a huge focus on your customer base , its psychology, its needs.

What do search engines seek for? – It sees whether your  site architecture  is search friendly, whether you have good original content on your site.

But whats so unique about it? Everyone can get a good architecture an original content? - This is the answer to your question. You just answered your own question dude :)

When everything else becomes common, what adds spark to your site is LINKS – They work like User Testimonials to your services. They boost your site quality and suggests Search engines that a lot of people are recommending you thus you ought to be good.

But why do you have to spend money for that? - Do you want to wait for 15 years to get good business? If yes, then you do not need an SEO in your team. If you are confident, thinking big and you know that whatever services you are providing via the Internet (e-commerce site) is high quality and trusted, I am damn sure you will not want to wait for so long. Also there is a demand of (trusted) Merchants like you so why not reach out to people as soon as possible and capture the market potential in your favor!

I am already paying you a good salary. Why do you still need a separate budget? - Dear Boss, you are paying me well no doubt, but I have no control over other webmasters out there who want to make money through there efforts, there websites. If they are having a strong website that is related to what we are selling, getting a good review or recommendation from them would fetch us those people who come on there site + a nudge to the Search Engine that Oh! They are being liked :) . But the webmaster wont do this for free ( in most cases).

Hmm.. Ok, and what about commenting and something called link exchanges that are for free? - Yes Blog commenting definitely helps. We will do it as well. But the justification of Buying Ad space is still valid. Link Exchanges? Do you ever bother to visit the “Links” page on someone’s site if you are on a lookout for Adidas Shoes? I do not, and 8 out of 10 don’t either. Plus while exchanging, we will also have to give them a link on our site. Search Engines are smart enough to judge that A Links to B , and B Links to A so nullify the links as they are exchanged.  I strongly am NOT in favor of this.

Ok SEOgirl..Err.. Kirti You sound reasonably fair to me. One last question – Everybody must be buying links. Can you tell me how will the one’s that you buy will make a difference? - Yes everybody is buying. But NOT EVERYBODY is SMARTLY buying. I know, I have an eye of an SEO. A lot of people are Faking PR and monetizing there sites to people link us with a budget of buying. This is where my experience an knowledge comes to question. And if you have a doubt on this, I  think you should re interview me for the job. :) If you want, I can give you details on my strategies of buying a link but in my next post. I am already an hour too late and my Real boss would kick me out if I do not start with my job  right away.

LOL, you are a smart chic! That’s why I hired you. I will assign you a budget ASAP. By the way “Are you single?!” – Ah..!! Not Again.  :)

AT THE END OF THE DAY , WE ALL WANT TO MAKE MONEY WITHOUT BREAKING THE RULES!

Bye Bye ~~

Fake PR – How do crooks fool Googlebot

Posted on October 28, 2009, by seogirl, under Cloaking, Fake PR, Google, Google Bot, Redirects.

I am back with Bang Guys. No fever No Cough and absolutely No Sneezing..  :D . Though I am feeling up to blab about almost anything in this world, but I have decided to talk something sense.

Fake PR” is the word Ladies & Gentlemen – So many webmasters do it , so many SEO’s and Link Builder suffer from it. Some make money and some loose big money. But the question is “How do all these Black Hat SEO’s fool the super intelligent, running on an almost ideal algorithm, Googlebot?”.

There are different methods to get a Fake PR. Interestingly, I know of only 3. One is Techy type other is a smarty type.

1. Techy Type – Done by Redirecting/Cloaking – This is done by redirecting the Googlebot using a 301 / 302 redirect directly or with the use of cloaking (will tell you what this is) to some High PR site.  The Googlebot feels that the visitors are landing on the High PR site and the masked page (low quality site) will temporarily gain the pagerank of the page it was redirected to. This may continue even after the domain masking or Redirects have been removed ( I have no answer to this) but gradually, the Pagerank does decline to Zero.

Cloaking - It is also a way of redirecting the search engine bot but unlike 301/302 redirects, here the SEO’s use a cloaking script in the .htaccess file to indirectly redirect the bot via IP address. Difference between Cloaking and Redirecting is just that the former is a smarter way to keep the bot confused for a longer time.

2. Smarty Type – In this case, what you have to do is have a lot of money.  Go to Godaddy Auctions, buy a High PR Domain, make your own site live and keep monetizing from it mainly via text ads.

Detect a Fake PR – If you are smart and intelligent like me (SEOgirl) lol, and you are a singlet :P , then you can detect easily whether a website is Faking a PR or not. Read on -

1. Check the Cache version. Type – info:www.yourdomain.com or info:yourdomain.com. Check both ways for the current site and the cache version to be the same. If its not, then the site is faking the PR via Redirects.

google info

Google info

2. Still not sure, then check the Back links via Yahoo Site explorer or Google info.  If a site has PR8 but you find only few (say 25) back links to it that too of very low quality and unrelated, the site has a forged a pagerank.

3. Further, you can check the age of the domain – for a comparatively new domain, it is not possible to acquire such high rank in few months.

4. Internet Archive – the way back machine – Check for the previous history of the domain. This will tell you if the buyer bought a high PR domain and put up his new files to monetize the domain or not.

There are some more was to confirm this like by using a Fake PR Checker Tool which you can consider.

Why you should not Fake a PR?

1. When you use redirects, the actual back links to your site are accounted to the site you are masking to. This means Zero benefit from actual Link exchanges or reviews etc.

2. On removing the Redirects, as long as you don’t get noticed by the bots might help you get a PR for some time but there will always be a risk of getting banned any time.

3. If you are not here for short term monetary gains and to be thrown out of the SERPS , do not do it.

This post is by far my longest post on the blog and By God – What a Dashing Headline I used…  ;) (Self Praise boosts up my confidence guys.. )

Bye Bye

P.S. – My Associate always advises ” 20 PR0 Back links are 1000 times better than a single PR8 (related/unrelated/fake) Back link “(for an average site).
